The peace between North and South Korea depends primarily on the Korean
people and no efforts should be made to accomodate the opinions of
countries that have an interest of keeping two Koreas separate. One such
country is the United States. USA have time and time again have shown
little interest in promoting peace in Korean peninsula. The recent
violation of North Korean airspace by US jets were labeled as "mistake"
by US military officials. We believe it was a test to see how North
Korea would react in the post June summit agreements.
Another sensitive issue between USA-Korea is of course the SOFA agreement,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The latest revision of Korean SOFA, according to news reports, still does
not seem to reflect the fairness that we see in Europe's NATO SOFA

can not be issued for violations.
With the newly elected US President Bush known to be more hardliner

comments made by Colin Powell, they have no plans to promote peace
but more interested in following the path of "limited engagement" towards
North Korea. This means US Gov. will continue to further its interests
in Northeast Asia at the expense of Korea.
So my point is that South Korea must become more assertive in promoting
opening up of North Korea, more assertive in peace process and not be
influenced and/or manipulated by Washington's opinions and objections.
We, Korean ourselves, are primarily responsible for peace and
unification of Korea. Other countries will do their best to keep
Koreas separate to advance its selfish interests. The faster Korea
can reunify, then there is less need for keeping unwanted foreign
troops occupying our mother land.
